Everything you need to know about headbands.
Headbands are the easy peasy go-to hair accessory
Headbands!
We love that hair trends are so often something from the past that we see reinvented (more than once) so they suit our current lives. Let’s step all the way back to Ancient Greece for a minute, around 400BC where the Greeks and Romans wore hair wreaths for a special occasion, and as time went on, they began decorating their green leafy wreaths with jewels and silver and gold. Sounds fancy. Fast forward to the 1910’s, and the ‘headache band’ was born, doctors believed tight pressure wrapped around the forehead relieved headaches, and in true girl boss style, women would modify their headache bands using interesting and exotically luxurious fabrics, laces and feathers, and then you guessed it, hello flapper headbands of the 1920’s! A leap and jump later, the 1960’s came around and so did the beehive hairstyle, to protect their hair while driving, women would wrap a silk scarf around their hair and eventually that scarf became a fashionable part of the style. When the beehive came down later in the decade, the classic silk scarves were replaced with hippie inspired tie dye and both women and men of the rock world got involved. And by the 80’s, the seed had been planted, and headbands as a hair accessory were essential.
With so many options now, you really can find a headband worthy of a black-tie gala event with intricate beading and embellishment, or an everyday addition to your office attire in a simple chic satin or cotton. They are such a great way to express your fashion and sense of style with minimal effort which is always a plus in the morning rush.
Our favourite style is a knotted or twist front headband, they are easy, look great with hair up or down, compliment short or long hair, and the colour choice is endless, so have fun.
